an assistant coach!

The sun came out for us today
Shinin’ down on our parade
The mighty little leaguers are revealed
Banners hung red, white and blue
An american dream comin’ true
It’s opening day down at the baseball field

The mayor’s here and the mayor’s there
Shakin’ hands with a brand new head of hair
The fireman’s band is a'honkin’ and a’squealin’
Hot dogs, soda, poppin’ corn
This ‘ol town has been reborn

All winter long I’ve been workin’ on my glove
Now it’s ready to go
Spit on my hands and click my cleats
Today I’m swingin’ for the bleacher seats

Now an ex-big leauger who lives ‘cross town
Is throwin’ the first pitch, chuckin’ it down
Long ago I hear he was a big, big deal
The Star Spangled Banner brings a tear to the scene
With a moving rendition by the Strawberry Queen

All winter long I’ve been workin’ on my swing
Now it’s in the groove
Louisville Sluggers line the fence
The parents and the coaches are lookin’ tense

The crowd erupts with a mighty roar
Our little leaguers run and take the field
